Global Wood Pellet Industry - Market and Trade Study

Worldwide pellet production has increased sharply in the last few years and amounted to 14.4m t in 2010, roughly 13.5m t of which has been consumed. This was revealed by a study by the International Energy Agency (IEA) entitled “Global Wood Pellet Industry – Market and Trade Study”. The study shows that pellet producers’ capacity increased in 2010 by 22% against the year before to 28.3m t. No final figures are available for 2011 yet. According to provisional calculations, however, there is expected to be an increase to roughly 30m t. The greatest increase in production capacity was registered in North America and Russia, followed by European countries such as Germany, Sweden, and Austria. Source: euwid-wood-products.com
