Organic Gemini is set to open first retail outlet at Gansevoort Farmer's Market on 7 November 2014.
CEO Mariam Kinkladze is responsible for bringing the most ancient of superfoods, TigerNuts, to the U.S. audience. "Sales at WholeFoods have been growing exponentially as health-conscious consumers discover this superfood. I'm so excited to open our first retail outlet!"
The Gansevoort stand will be housing the brand's best-selling TigerNut Horchata alongside a menu of freshly-made delights, and their product line of Raw TigerNuts, Raw TigerNut Flour and Cold Pressed TigerNut Oil.
The menu will combine seasonal specials (expect some fun items for Fall) with a mix of sweet and savory staples, all of which uphold the brand's organic, allergen-friendly ethos.
TigerNuts, despite the name, are not actually nuts. They are the roots of an ancient plant. Two million years ago, TigerNuts fuelled up to 80% of prehistoric man's diet. They are extremely rich in nutrients, and they are the #1 wholefood source of resistant starch, which is a prebiotic. Not to be confused with probiotics (live microorganisms), prebiotics are fiber compounds that stimulate the growth of good bacteria in the digestive system. TigerNuts are naturally sweet and can be eaten raw as a snack. They (and all Organic Gemini products made from them) are allergen friendly, being gluten, dairy, and nut free.
What is Horchata?
A popular Mediterranean drink, the recipe for horchata was originally crafted in 13th century Spain, using TigerNuts. Legend has it that the name was coined by the ruler at the time, King James, who after first tasting it exclaimed, "Aixo es or, xata!" which translates to "That's gold, darling!"
While many modern versions are made with rice and refined sugar, Our True Roots follows the traditional TigerNut recipe. Organic Gemini's TigerNut Horchata is currently available in 7 lavors: Original, Unsweetened, Chai, Coffee and Honey. The Gansevoort stall will see the launch of 2 new flavors: Banana and Strawberry.
