The Hop leaf is a key element of Carlsberg's original logo that was designed by Danish artist Thorvald Bindesball in 1904.

Carlsberg will first implement the new design in Norway across Carlsberg's beer can range with the aim of rolling it out to other markets.

The new design would feature a silhouette of the green Hop Leaf which will help the beer manufacturer reinforce its dedication to better quality and add value by boosting the perception of its consumers in the 20-45 year-old target audience.

The Hop Leaf cut-out tab will be featured on the newly designed cans simultaneously with the standard Carlsberg can design.

Speaking about the initiative, senior innovation manager for Carlsberg Giorgio Grimaldi said: "The Hop Leaf is a symbol of the quality and purity of the ingredients that go into making the best beer in the world and Rexam offered us an innovative and unique way to incorporate it into our can designs, providing us with a bespoke product with great stand out on shelf."

The new designs will be produced out of Rexam's plants in Recklinghausen and Mont and will be made available on all 33cl and 50cl cans.

Producing 60 millions cans every year, the company claims to be the leading can maker in Europe and South America and number 2 in the US. It operates out of its 57 can and end making plants across the world.
