French carmaker Renault has signed a framework agreement with China's Dongfeng Motor Group to produce cars, including electric car and SUV, in the country by 2014.
The deal is expected to be concluded by the end of this year and provide Renault with its first car manufacturing plant in the world's biggest car market following its aim to acquire a share of the large sedan market.
Dongfeng, in a joint venture with Nissan Motor, already produces cars for the Chinese market, while the new JV is also planning industrial cooperation opportunities with the Dongfeng-Nissan venture.
Nissan is planning to unveil its Talisman model at the Beijing auto show on April 23, which is the designed for the Chinese market based on the SM7 model produced by its South Korean facility, Renault Samsung.
