The Energy Problem Has Become an Important Task of China

Along with the energy problem getting increasingly serious, it has become an important task of China to accelerate phasing out incandescent lamps. In the second half of 2010, National Development and Reform Commission has set the route map of eliminating inefficient lighting products (incandescent lamp) and promoting efficient and energy saving lighting products so as to further improve China's green lighting project. According to the introduction of Li Jinmin, head of the Institute of Semiconductors, Chinese Academy of Sciences, that the energy consumption of semiconductor lighting is one tenth of ordinary incandescent lamp, but its life time can be as long as over 100, 000 hours. Just because of this, USA, European Community, Japan, Australia, and Canada has announced to phase out incandescent lamp and develop LED lighting industry successively since 2007. Xu Jian, Chief Expert of new material research expert team of National 863 Plan, revealed that according to "The Twelfth Five-year Plan", 70 percent of semiconductor lighting chips will be made in China to the year of 2015 and the industrial size will reach RMB500 billion Yuan. At present, China's LED lighting industry is growing rapidly. We have had independent intellectual property rights in respect of LED lighting epitaxial material, chip manufacturing, device encapsulation and fluorescent powder, as well as some original core technologies; a relatively complete research and development and industrial system has taken initial shape. Since 2008, the public have felt and experienced the fascination of green lighting through the application of LED lighting in such big events as Beijing Olympic Games, World Expo Shanghai, and Guangzhou Asian Games. Li Xuliang, Board Chairman of Dongguan Kingsun Optoelectronic Co., Ltd., therefore pointed out when interviewed by the reporter, that the rapid growth of LED lighting is inseparably related to the vigorous support of the government and the scale effects of enterprises. "One important factor is the enlargement of enterprise size, which cuts down production and circulation cost greatly. Moreover, consumers' stronger awareness of energy saving and gradual understanding of hi-tech products have to a certain extent promoted the application of LED lighting products. " Master core technologies as soon as possible On the whole, the development of China's LED lighting industry is healthy and orderly. When China started "National Semiconductor Lighting Project" in 2003, almost all the large-scale equipment and devices were dependent on import; at the end of "The Eleventh Five-year Plan", namely the end of 2010, the localization rate of the said equipment and devices had been over 50 percent. The scheme, 'Bachat Lamp Yojana', is expected to commence from August. But at the same time with the rapid development of LED lighting industry, there remain problems such as lack of independent R&D ability, lack of industrial criteria, serious product homogenization, blind investment, and so on. In 2010, Chinese LED industrial scale has exceeded 120 billion Yuan. There were over 2000 LED enterprises, many of which had scale over 0.1 billion Yuan; but only a few of them had scale over 0.5 billion Yuan and 1 billion Yuan. It is an urgent task to foster LED lighting products and enterprises with independent intellectual property rights. Kingsun Optoelectronic, being a fast growing LED lighting enterprises, has recognized the problem. " Lower price quickly This year is the first year of "The Twelfth Five-year Plan"; China's LED industry is welcoming unprecedented development opportunities and confronting with heavier challenges. Regarding the outdoor lighting, The Ministry of Science and Technology has begun to popularize and implement "10 cities 10 thousand lights" semiconductor lighting application project since 2009. Pilot projects have been started in 21 cities like Tianjin, Xian, Xiamen, and so on. According to the plan of each city, 1.12 million LED road lamps shall be installed this year. However, as LED road lamp is a revolutionary breakthrough in lighting field, and the cost is too high as restricted by production capacity, price of outdoor lighting products remains a matter of concern. Li Xuliang said that Kingsun Optoelectronic will take the lead in creating outdoor lighting price revolution. Li Xuliang introduced that Kingsun Optoelectronic has made great breakthrough in several application technologies, formed relatively strong ability to bargain by sort of scale production capacity and has reduced the price of raw materials by 20 percent to 30 percent. "We will surrender the profits from cost reduction to customers, and promote the widespread use of outdoor lighting products. " As far as indoor lighting is concerned, since it launched A-plan last November, cost-effective LED indoor lighting products of Kingsun Optoelectronic have drawn great concern from distributors and customers. Wang Yuhong introduced that driven by the strong influence of A-plan and the customers' requirements, plus Kingsun's mass production capacity, intensive purchase capacity and technology breakthrough, Kingsun Optoelectronic will go on transferring profits to consumers and distributors and will launch A+ plan. "The Twelfth Five-year Plan" period is crucial for the industrial transformation and leap-forward upgrading of "made in China".
