Progress Glass to Give Employees a Long Weekend off to Enjoy The Fourth of July Holiday

Chuck Burkard, president of Progress Glass, says the decision to give his employees a long weekend off to further enjoy the Fourth of July holiday was a winning formula for everybody involved.

“Closed [Thursday-Sunday],” he said by e-mail this week. “Everybody in management can use a break and all the guys in the field are union, so they are off anyway.”

The San Francisco-based company appears to be more the exception than the norm, according to a USGNN.com™/USGlass magazine poll that shows that the majority of glass fabricators are only shutting their doors for Thursday, July 4th before re-opening for business the following day.

According to the poll, 56 percent readers told us their companies will be closed Thursday, July 4 only in observance of Independence Day, while 44 percent will be closed Thursday through Saturday.

No responders have indicated that they would open on Saturday after being closed on Thursday and Friday.

Some of the companies that told us they will be closed during this time include:
