The Company has 15 stores in Melbourne, Sydney, New Zealand, Qatar, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Administrators have been appointed to the Company’s Australian operations, which include four Jones the Grocer stores in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as Senselle Foods, and Sydney-based businesses Charlie & Co and Becasse. It has been reported that the Australian stores will continue to trade as normal.
The move into administration comes just days after it was reported that Jones the Grocers’ director John Manos had resigned from the Company.
Jones the Grocer launched in 1996, opening the flagship Sydney store in Woollhara in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The retail stores combine a cafe offering with premium grocery retailing.
In 2012, global luxury consumers products company Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy’s (LVMH) Singapore-based private equity fund L Capital Asia acquired a 50 per cent share in Jones the Grocer. At the time, L Capital Asia said Jones the Grocer was a “strong platform” for further expansion in Singapore and South East Asia.
