Cree Designed to Replace The Hundreds of Millions of Fluorescent Strip

LED chip, lamp and lighting fixture maker Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA has introduced the LS Series linear LED luminaire, designed to replace the hundreds of millions of fluorescent strip, wrap and industrial fixtures currently installed in North America.

The new luminaire complements Cree's troffer and linear luminaire portfolio. Designed in a slim form factor with multiple mounting options and lumen packages, the it can reduce energy consumption by more than 25% (calculated against a fluorescent two-lamp fixture, with lamp and ballast equal to 55 system watts, and based on typical commercial usage of 12 hours per day and $0.11 per kWh electric costs) and nearly eliminate maintenance expenses, making it a suitable replacement for retail, education and industrial applications.

Powered by Cree TrueWhite Technology, the LS Series linear LED luminaire delivers what is claimed to be best-in-class color quality and accuracy, a key feature for applications where visual acuity and color rendering are important. Offering surface, pendant, suspended and cove mounting options in 4- and 8-foot configurations, it provides flexible installation and easy end-user customization to accommodate nearly any application, it is claimed. The luminaire also reduces the 'cave effect' commonly found in outdated fluorescent luminaires by providing a 10% uplight.

"We removed existing product barriers and delivered a linear luminaire that produces exceptional, long-lasting light in a modern form factor," says Norbert Hiller, Cree executive VP, lighting.

The LS Series linear LED luminaire comes with a 10-year limited warranty, and is sold through Cree lighting sales channels throughout the USA and Canada.
