Packaging and paper producer Mondi is set to invest in its Mondi Simet plant near Pozna, Poland to strengthen its heavy duty corrugated capabilities in Europe.
The investment will see installation of a 2.8m corrugator with three single facers to expand Mondi’s portfolio to heavy duty corrugated items.
The firm’s extended portfolio will include mono and multi material constructive packaging, Octabins for bulk packaging and large volume corrugated containers, including pak-(k)it and stac-pac pallet boxes.
Mondi will also install a 2.40m box maker with a stitching unit for heavy duty conversions. This allows short production runs with boards up to six metres in length.
Mondi Poland regional manager Grzegorz Kulesza said: “The project is scheduled to be completed in Q3, 2017 and represents Mondi Simet’s entry into the heavy duty corrugated segment in Poland.
“The investment will allow Mondi to provide even greater support to the wider Polish corrugated market, where it already enjoys a market leading position, and will quickly increase the plant´s production volume capability to up to 200 million square metres (sq m) per year.”
A new Rotary Die Cutter (RDC) and a case maker will also be installed to enhance technical capabilities at the facility.
Mondis said that the RDC will provide extended product choice, including high sales impact retail and shelf ready packaging for its customers.
The fully automated line is scheduled to be installed in 2017.
Employing around 25,000 people, Mondi has operations in central Europe, Russia, North America and South Africa, offering over 100 packaging and paper products to its customers.
