Oat-Glucan Has Received GRAS Status

Garuda International,a US-based producer of naturally derived ingredients,has announced that its B-CAN Oat Bran Concentrate(Oat-Glucan)has received GRAS(Generally Recognized As Safe)status.

The GRAS status certifieds that B-CAN Oat Bran Concentrate/Oat Glucan is safe for use as a food additive and can be used in various food categories including breads,breakfast cereals,soups,salad dressings and beverages,the company said.

In line with the Code of Federal Regulations,the products must be GRAS in order to be used in food applications.B-CAN Oat-Glucan is also currently certified Kosher and Halal.

In addition to the food applications,the product can also be used under the supervision of a physician in medical foods at levels below 3.0g-Glucan/person/day.

Garuda International president and CEO Roger Matkin said the GRAS status will enable food and beverage manufacturers in the US and internationally to offer healthier consumer products formulated with B-CAN.
