NBTY, a US-based manufacturer and distributor of vitamins and nutritional supplements, has unveiled a new vitamin manufacturing facility in San Antonio, Texas.
The investment is a part of the company's strategy to boost its capacity in the health and wellness market where the demand for vitamins and supplements is increasing.
The plant will produce at least 15 million vitamins per day for brands such as Nature's Bounty, Disney and Sundown Naturals. It will join NBTY's other facilities in New York, Florida, Arizona and California.
It enables the company to accommodate growth in its gummy vitamin business.
The facility has created 45 new jobs, and it is expected to employ 100 people on reaching full production rate.
NBTY CEO Jeff Nagel said, "Gummy vitamins are the fastest growing form of vitamins, up almost 30% versus a year ago and we expect that trend to continue.
"The facility produces a wide variety of gummy products including multi-vitamins, fiber, melatonin and calcium gummies," Nagel added.
"The addition of this facility to our world-class roster of manufacturing operations is a huge step in our move toward putting capacity and process innovation in place to accommodate the expected continued growth of this industry."
