The Yield of Belgian Crude Steel Falls by 6% in Q2

In the second quarter of the current year, Belgian crude steel production amounted to 1.77 million mt, falling by six percent year on year and up 3.4 percent compared to the first quarter, according to the Belgian Steel Federation (GSV). In the first quarter this year, Belgium's crude steel output had decreased four percent compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the second quarter this year, the country's hot rolled coil production came to 1.8 million metric tons, falling by nine percent year on year and up 4.2 percent compared to the first quarter, while its cold rolled coil production rose by six percent year on year to 1.2 million metric tons, up 3.3 percent quarter on quarter.

In the given period, Belgian steelmakers produced 988,000 metric tons of coated sheets, up four percent year on year and up 2.7 percent quarter on quarter, while their output of wire rod amounted to 207,000 metric tons, 16 percent lower as compared to the second quarter of 2012 and down 5.9 percent quarter on quarter.

In the second quarter of the current year, Belgium's stainless steel output stood at 341,000 metric tons, decreasing by one percent year on year and down 6.1 percent quarter on quarter.
