MediaTek is expected to see its shipments of tablet solutions double in 2014 from 15-20 million units projected for 2013 and account for 30% of the non-iPad tablet chipset market, according to an industry estimate.
MediaTek has launched four tablet chips, the MT8125, MT8135, MT8389 and MT8382, and these chips have found their ways into tablets rolled out by branded as well as white-box vendors.
The Taiwan-based fabless IC maker has also managed to secure tablet solution orders from first-tier players including Acer, Asustek Computer and Lenovo, which has helped enhance its product image among white-box tablet players and therefore ramp up its shipments, said the sources.
