The Maritime Facilities of The PRPA Showed a Healthy 10.42 Percent Gain in Cargos Handled

With 4,418,674 metric tons of cargo handled at the Port of Philadelphia in 2012 compared to the 4,001,759 tons handled in 2011, the maritime facilities of the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA) showed a healthy 10.42 percent gain in cargos handled last year, the port announced Monday.

Highlights among the PRPA's 2012 cargo statistics include steel with 197,854 tons handled last year (up 21 percent), while project cargo was also up 21 percent.

Automobiles continue to be a big success story for the Port of Philadelphia since the cargo began arriving here in 2010. With 192,918 metric tons (representing 143,258 individual units) of cars coming into the Port in 2012 compared to the 174,978 tons (127,406 units) that arrived here in 2011, cars were up 10.25 percent.
