India-based steelmaker Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL) has ordered a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) converter shop including a secondary metallurgy center and comprehensive environmental technology from the German plantmaker SMS Siemag, as announced by SMS Siemag.
SMS Siemag's scope of supply will comprise two 250 mt BOF converters, each equipped with a gas cleaning and recovery plant designed to meet the highest environmental standards, and three ladle furnaces.
JSPL is currently building an integrated steel plant in the Indian state of Odisha. Phase I with two BOF units will have an annual production capacity of 3.8 million mt of high quality steel. The steel plant will cover a broad range of products, from high-grade ultra-low carbon steel, API grades to non-grain-oriented electrical grades.
Additionally, the primary gas cleaning system to be supplied by SMS Siemag for the steelmaker will be the first time this modern process gas cleaning technology is used in an Indian steel plant.
