The Glass Association of North America (GANA) opened its mirror division meeting yesterday afternoon by discussing the division’s website revamp plans.
During the division meeting, Mandy Marxen of Gardner Glass Products provided further details about the redesign to the site, mirrorlink.org. In an effort to create a more distinct visual presence, Marxen encouraged members to submit industry pictures for site usage.
“Pictures are what make a website go,” Marxen said.
The committee hopes to finish the new website before the organization’s 2013 Fall Conference in North Carolina, September 18-22.
Sylvain Denis of Walker Glass Co. Ltd. spoke on behalf of the division’s technical committee. He reminded committee members that the mirror information bulletin (MIB) on green aspects was published a while ago, and since then the decorative division’s Recyclability of Glass Task Group has tackled a few items that also covered mirrors. The organization is now looking to see if that content can be incorporated into the MIB.
Another update the committee is looking into is ASTM C 1503 Standard Specification for Silvered Flat Glass Mirror. A call has been made to re-approve the standard as is and has been sent for the balloting process.
Before the mirror division meeting came to a close, Marxen noted one item for possible future consideration: aluminum mirror.
“There was a time it was thought aluminum mirrors were made of a lesser quality–that it was distorted or tinted,” said Marxen. “That’s not the case anymore from what I’ve seen of this product. From an educational standpoint, we should note the differences.”
Although the committee decided there is not much to do at this point, Marxen encouraged the division to “keep an ear out.”
