Salesforce.com wants to simplify the way mobile users find, access and share files from its Chatter enterprise social networking (ESN) application.
A new version of the Chatter mobile application for iOS and Android tablets and smartphones adds a central container of all files stored in Salesforce.com to which users have access.
Until now, users of the Chatter mobile application had to fish around on their newsfeeds and other places to locate CRM (customer relationship management)-related files they wanted to share with colleagues or partners.
"For the first time, users of Chatter's mobile app will have a single repository for all their Salesforce.com files," said Michael Peachey, senior director of solutions marketing at Salesforce.com.
By making files easier to access, Salesforce.com expects that people will use Chatter's mobile application more frequently and more effectively, especially in "micromoments" when a small time window opens and offers them an opportunity to collaborate with their peers from a coffee shop, from an airport lounge or after visiting a client.
The iOS version of the application has already been updated with the new feature, while the new Android version is due in Google Play soon.
Chatter is a component of the Salesforce.com CRM suite that adds to it a layer of social media features tailored for workplace collaboration, such as employee profiles, activity streams, discussion forums, microblogging, document sharing and commenting. Other popular ESN tools include those from Jive Software, Microsoft's Yammer, NewsGator, Socialtext and Tibco's Tibbr.
