Mattress Direct and Protect-A-Bed reported that the recently presented a $4,000 check to Home for our Troops, a national non-profit organization dedicated to assisting severely injured veterans and their immediate families.
To coincide with the Fourth of July, Protect-A-Bed® and Mattress Direct encouraged Facebook fans to show support for veterans through social media. From June 30 through July 15, fans showed support by ''liking'' the various Facebook pages, photos and messages.
''We were proud to join forces with Mattress Direct on such a great initiative,'' said Clive Goldin, President of Protect-A-Bed. ''This money helps the families of those brave men and women who have sacrificed to protect our country. We were very pleased with the outpouring of support.''
The donation to Homes for our Troops helped fund the organization's mission to build specially adapted homes for service members who have been severely injured in combat since September 11, 2001.
According to Veteran's Affairs reports, nearly half of all veterans from Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom who live in Louisiana have sought medical care from Veteran's Affairs facilities. ''In this part of the country, there is a tremendous need to support returning military veterans,'' says Lee Burns, President of Mattress Direct. ''We are very proud of our military and we're excited that this donation allows our veterans to sleep a little better in a new, more comfortable home.''
Recently, Homes for our Troops has helped build homes for four injured service members in Louisiana.
