Dairy co-operative Irish dairy board(IDB)has secured a €20m contract from UK-based supermarket chain Tesco to supply packet butter to the retailer's outlets.
Under the deal,the co-operative will supply its own brand butter to Tesco stores in Poland,the Czech Republic,Slovakia,and Hungary.
Irish Dairy Board holds majority of€1bn dairy products exports from Ireland annually.Its brands include Kerrygold,Pilgrims Choice and Beo.
Tesco Ireland chief executive Tony Keohane said that the company receives about€700m of Irish food globally,including 13%of dairy exports,and the deal reaffirms Tesco as a significant buyer of Irish food.
Meanwhile,the European Commission has approved over€400,000 for Ireland to promote dairy products in the EU.
