Luxembourg-based printing and packaging giant Flint Group has opened a new global innovation centre (GIC) in Sweden for its paper & board packaging inks business.
Located in Malmo, the innovation centre features a new 8-station SOMA printing press in which the company has invested an undisclosed sum.
Dubbed as SOMA Optima 850, the new 8-colour CI printing press is said to have the latest web handling technology along with water-based and UV printing capabilities.
Flint Group stated that the new printing press is available for benchmarking of products and customer assessments. Its features include the Falcon II Intelligent Job Setting, SOMA Ink Cartridge System, and Inkstorm auto wash-up, in addition to sleeves, doctor blades, and aniloxes.
Flint Group Paper & Board Sales EMEA & Global Strategy VP Kim Melander said: “The centre has been specially designed to focus on the development of products that will shape the future of Paper & Board printing.
“The investment in our new state of the art SOMA printing press is a significant milestone and a clear demonstration that we are fully committed to invest in our industry and support our customers’ growth through an innovative development workflow.”
GIC has a 590m2 space for demonstrations to be showed for the press. It comes with a sound proof collaboration room.
Also in the innovation centre are the development and testing labs said to be equipped with advanced analytic testing and proofing systems. There is also an academy room which can seat 25 people at a time alongside an adjacent lounge area to map innovative ideas.
The Flint Group has also installed a new GSE ink dispenser and the VIVO Colour Solutions toolbox in the innovation centre to provide the completely-integrated press room workflow.
