The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible will make its world premiere next month, with the American icon going lidless for the upcoming Geneva motor show.

General Motors says the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Convertible will deliver the same balance of technology, design and performance first seen on the coupe version when it debuted at last month’s Detroit auto show. This means the same 335kW/610Nm 6.2-litre direct-injection V8 engine, seven-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching, and optional six-speed paddle-shifted automatic transmission that make the new C7 Corvette the most powerful and most fuel-efficient ‘Vette ever made.

Chevrolet Europe president and managing director Susan Docherty said introducing the new Stingray convertible at Geneva was fitting as the Corvette is the face of Chevrolet worldwide.

“It is an icon that has long been recognised and admired even in countries where it’s never officially been offered,” Docherty said.

Corvette chief engineer Tadge Juechter is confident the de-roofed Stingray will deliver the same levels of enjoyment as the coupe version, saying every Corvette is designed from the start to be an open-top car.

“The new Stingray is no different, with the coupe and convertible designed to excel in any situation – be it your daily commute, a drive across the continent, or charging through twisting back roads,” Juechter said.

Chevrolet has also announced that, as in the case of the first retail production coupe model that sold at auction – alongside the original 1966 Batmobile – for $1.02 million, the first retail production model of the Corvette Stingray Convertible will be auctioned off with the proceeds going to charity.

Joining the new open-air Stingray at Geneva on March 5, and making its European debut, will be the electric Chevrolet Spark EV.
