The Market Conditions for LED May Still Be in The Clouds in First-Half 2012

The market conditions for LED may still be in the clouds in first-half 2012, according to Robert Yeh, chairman of Taiwan-based LED packaging house Everlight. While attending Lighting Japan 2012, Yeh indicated that the industry might see a return of demand in the second half of 2012 as the price of LED light bulbs hits US$10/unit. Taiwan-based LED firms such as Everlight, Delta and Optotech have been showcasing the latest applications of LED lighting at Lighting Japan 2012. Everlight is showcasing LED applications for agriculture purposes. Everlight indicated that through the special characteristics of LED lights, plants can grow in a controlled and stable environment which may help to shrink the lack of food supplies in the world. According to Bernd Kammerer, general manager of Everlight, China, Europe and Japan account for 70% of the global LED lighting market and Everlight has been focusing on these markets. Everlight plans to enter Japan's LED lighting end market in 2012 as the penetration rate of this market continues to increase rapidly. Hence, Everlight expects revenues from LED lighting products to increase significantly in 2012. Source: www.digitimes.com
