ZF Friedrichshafen, a developer of driveline and chassis technologies, has started construction of a new passenger car axles plant in Beijing, China, in order to expand its presence in the region.
The company is investing about EUR15m in the equipment of the new 58,000 sq m facility, where about 350 employees will assemble some thousand axle sets per annum for the customer Beijing Benz Automotive (BBAC), a joint venture of Daimler in China.
Besides the current model ranges, the new ZF plant will also supply future car models like the next generation of Mercedes-Benz C- and E-Class.
With the new plant being built in Beijing, the number of production locations for the automotive supplier in China increases to 20.
In 2010, ZF took the constantly growing importance of the Chinese market into account by building the central headquarters for the Asia-Pacific region with a new development center in Shanghai.
