German brand Jäger und Sammler has chosen NatureFlex, a compostable flexible packaging material produced by Innovia Films, for its range of energy bars.
Jäger und Sammlerwas established in Berlin this year to produce, develop and market energy food.
The company chose NatureFlex because the film has deadfolf and anti-static properties, which comes in handy for packing and converting. The film is also resistant to grease and oil, claims to offer an efficient barrier to gases, aromas, mineral oils and has a different heat-seal range.
The films contain about 95% renewable biobased content.
Speaking about NatureFlex, Jäger und Sammler co-founder Die Kraft des Urstromtals said, "As our Jäger und Sammler bars are 100% organic, the wrapping should also have cutting edge characteristics.
"Innovia Films' NatureFlex™ fits the bill perfectly for us. The compostability of this film in combination with it being manufactured from renewable resources is exactly what we were looking for in our approach towards healthier food where no harm is caused to the environment."
The products produced by the company are said to be gluten-free and contain no added preservatives or flavor enhancers.
The bars come in three flavors - fruity suitable for vegetarian diets, fiery suitable for vegan diets and hearty which comprises digestible carbohydrates, vitamins, essential fat and proteins.
Innovia films sales account manager Joachim Janz said, "We are delighted that our compostable film, NatureFlex™, is helping meet not only our customer's needs from a packaging perspective, but also supporting the ethos behind the creation, development and marketing of the Jäger und Sammler energy bars."
NatureFlex films meet the American, European and Australian standards for compostable packaging. The wood pulp used to produce the films is sourced from managed plantations.
