SES Has Selected Identive's Near Field Communication Tags to Power Electronic Shelf labels

France-based Store Electronic Systems (SES) has selected Identive’s near field communication (NFC) tags to power electronic shelf labels allowing consumers to access information on product pricing, composition, origin and manufacturing.

SES ordered three million Identive NFC tags for this retail application.

SES CTO Philippe Bottine said the company was on lookout for a partner that could provide it with a reliable solution for the launch of its NFC electronic shelf labels.

"This capability is yet another differentiator for SES as we work to help large retailers improve their sales and operational performance," Bottine said.

Embedded in SES's electronic shelf labels, the NFC tags give easy access to a retail experience for consumers.

Consumers can use any NFC-enabled smartphone to download the retailer's NFC mobile app and can then tap their phones to store shelf labels to view product information and receive coupons and loyalty benefits that can be redeemed from their phones at checkout.

The tags can also generate a health alert on the phone's screen for products that contain ingredients such as dairy or nuts.
