PlayStation Is Taking Over Your Web Browser, But Not How You'd Think

Sony has released a browser-based version of its PlayStation Vue television streaming service.

The cable-cutting platform can now be accessed on Mac and PC devices (via Engadget) and the launch even brings some unique features into play.

Subscribers will now have access to a mini-player that enables them to watch while performing other tasks.

Earlier this month, Sony announced a PlayStation Vue app for Android TV, joining availability on the PlayStation consoles, Roku and iOS and Android mobile devices.

The one significant platform Sony is missing is the Apple TV platform, where rival service Sling TV takes up residence.

Subscribers can watch on five devices simultaneously, while the cloud-based DVR makes it possible to record hundreds of hours of content.

Plans start at $29.99 for 55 channels, all the way to $74.99 for the Ultra package with HBO, Showtime and local content.

Sony is yet to announce a similar scheme for the UK, but it is at the forefront of a growing movement in the United States. Reports suggest Sony has well in excess of 100,000 subscribers.

Sony faces competition from more than Sling TV. Google, Apple and Microsoft are reportedly interested, while AT&T and Hulu have announced plans to launch similar schemes.
