With the investment, Linpac will produce a further 200 million expanded polystyrene (EPS) trays annually.

The Linpac's St Helens facility manufactures produces a range of innovative fast food boxes, trays and pizza discs for the national and European foodservice markets.

Linpac will also upgrade its existing extruders and thermoformers in a bid to further boost the quality, environmental benefits and cost effectiveness of packs for customers.

Linpac UK operations manager Mick Wood said: "We are working towards a major upgrade to our manufacturing capabilities. This will ensure that we can offer our customers both market leading quality and increased capacity to service their needs.

"This will give us an increased competitive edge in an important market for Linpac."

Upon completion of machinery upgrade, St Helens facility will feature four extrusion lines and 10 thermoformers in operation. It will be supported by three reclaim units.

Earlier this month, Linpac announced plans to invest €8m in new extrusion and thermoforming capacity in Pravia, Spain, to meet growing demand for PET and rPET.

In particular, the firm plans to install a fourth extruder at its Pravia site, to increase food packaging manufacturing capacity by 25%.
