"Graff Ruby" to Sell for as Much as $9 Million at Its Auction in Geneva Next Month

Sotheby’s anticipates that the 8.62-carat pigeon’s blood “Graff ruby,” one of the finest privately owned rubies in the world, will sell for as much as $9 million at its auction in Geneva next month.

Sotheby’s Nov. 12 sale of “Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels” brings together a group of exceptional jewels and gems from the collection of Dimitri Mavrommatis as well as pieces with a noble provenance.

In addition to the Graff ruby, the top lots of the sale include a pair of perfectly matched oval diamond earrings weighing 20.05 and 20.06 carats each that are expected to sell for up to $8.3 million, as well as a Kashmir sapphire and diamond ring that could garner as much as $6 million.

Also highlighting the sale are a 14.45-carat Burmese ruby and diamond ring, a 100.85-carat diamond ring, and a 16.37-carat diamond ring from Graff.

There also are two colored diamonds included in the top lots--which have been selling for record amounts in international jewelry auctions of late--including a fancy intense 3.16-carat blue diamond ring and a fancy intense purplish pink diamond ring of 4.53 carats.
