Epistar Will Establish a Joint Venture Maker of LED lighting in China

Epistar, a Taiwan-based LED chip maker, will establish a joint venture maker of inexpensive high-performance LED lighting products in Kunshan, eastern China, with Innotek Photoelectronic Technology, a Taiwan-based packager of LED chips for lighting application, and China-based maker of lighting products Shanghai Yaming Lighting. The joint venture is expected to start volume production in mid-September 2012, according to industry sources in Taiwan. Shanghai Yaming and Innotek will hold 50% and 40% stakes respectively in the joint venture, while Epistar's wholly owned subsidiary Lighting Investment will hold the remaining 10%, the sources indicated. For the operation of the joint venture, Epistar will supply high-voltage LED chips, Innotek and Shanghai Yaming will provide LED packaging technology and LED lighting manufacturing technology respectively, the sources indicated. In addition to the joint venture, Innotek has cooperated with Epistar to develop LED lighting modules and partnered with Shanghai Yaming to tap the international LED lighting market and offer 6W LED light bulbs in the second half of 2012, the sources noted.
