The Opel Zafira Tourer is confirmed to arrive on Australian shores from the middle of this year.

Both 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol and 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines will be imported here, with the seven-seat compact MPV set to rival the current Toyota Prius V and next generation Kia Rondo with sub-$40K pricing.

Opel’s Flex7 seating system allows both the Astra-based Zafira Tourer’s twin third row seats, and trio of individual chairs in the second row, to each independently fold flat.

The second row also features a lounge seating system that sees the middle seat fold down and rotate to provide lounge-like armrests for passengers in the outer seats while legroom and shoulder room are expandable by 280mm and 50mm respectively, thanks to sliding seat rails.

The Opel Zafira Tourer has over 30 storage compartments, highlighted by a multi-functional FlexRail centre console that includes a centre armrest, large enclosed storage box, and aluminium rails with cup holders that can be slid into the ideal position.

Sitting on a 2760mm wheelbase – 20mm shorter than a Toyota Prius V – the Zafira Tourer offers 710 litres of load volume when seating five, expandable to 1860L with the second row of seats folded flat.

While full pricing and specifications will be announced closer the MPV’s launch in the coming months, the Opel Zafira Tourer is expected to be priced between the Astra small car that starts at $23,990 and the Insignia large car at $38,490.

In Australia, the Zafira last wore Holden badges between 2001-2006.

Opel’s current range comprises the Opel Corsa, Astra, and Insignia, as well as OPC (Opel Performance Centre) versions of all three.
