In May, prices of 40W and 60W retrofit LED light bulbs in Japan were on average JPY1,719/unit (US$17.32/unit) and JPY2,350/unit, respectively. May prices of 40W and 60W retrofit LED light bulbs in Japan fell 1.4% and 0.3%, respectively.
In South Korea, according to Digitimes Research, the May average price of 40W retrofit LED light bulbs was KRW14,992/unit (US$13.40/unit), up 1.6% on month. The average price of 60W retrofit LED light bulbs in South Korea was KRW17,655/unit, down 25.6% in May. Digitimes Research noted that the price drop was due to the launch of a low-price 60W retrofit LED light bulb by Philips at KRW9,650/unit.
In China, the average price of domestic brand 7W LED light bulb was CNY36.9/unit (US$6.02), an drop of 3.7% compared to April. The price of 9W LED light bulbs averaged CNY54.4/unit, up 1.5% in May. Among international brands, prices for Osram's 7W retrofit LED light bulb showed the most significant drop at 31.2% compared to April.
US prices of 40W and 60W retrofit LED light bulbs in May were US$21.50/unit and US$24.00/unit, respectively, showing an on-month decrease of 3.2% and 2.8%, respectively.
In Europe the May average prices for the 40W and 60W retrofit LED light bulbs were EUR15.90/unit (US$20.83/unit) and EUR20.10/unit, respectively. Both prices were lower than prices in April.
Among all 40W retrofit LED light bulbs, Sharp's light bulbs in the Japan market had the highest brightness efficiency at 75.6lm/W. However, among all 60W retrofit LED light bulbs, Toshiba's product in the Japan market had the highest brightness efficiency of 92.1lm/W.
