SABIC announced Thursday a restructuring program in Europe that includes the closure of certain assets and a net reduction of approximately 1,050 jobs, one-third contracting staff and two-thirds SABIC employees, the company said in a statement.
The company said it had started consultations with the relevant works councils and trades unions on the planned restructuring.
A company source said two smaller polypropylene lines in Gelsenkirchen, Germany -- PP 2.3 and PP 2.4 -- would be closed, while another line would be consolidated.
The source did not give details of the use of the PP resins coming from these two lines.
