Container manufacturer Petainer is set to introduce its polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic kegs at Drinktec taking place from 16 to 20 September 2013 in Munich, Germany.
Available in 15, 20 and 30l capacities, the lightweight kegs are suitable for drinks including beer, cider, wine, concentrates and low pressure carbonated soft drinks.
According to the company, the kegs, which cost less than 10% of the price of the alternative steel keg, also offer various other cost, environmental and quality benefits.
The PET kegs can be recycled after use and also remove the need to use cleaning chemicals and the energy costs of the cleaning process.
All the company's kegs use 'barrier technologies' to restrict oxygen ingress and minimize CO2 losses.
Petainer group commercial strategy director Annemieke Hartman-Jemmett said the company's kegs allow brewers and drinks suppliers to deliver drinks with less environmental impact.
"The Petainer keg is only one of our products on show at Drinktec. Additional products include small container preforms, refillable and one way bottles, and water coolers (BPA free)," Hartman-Jemmett added.
