This cocoa paper is an innovation which has already won over the chocolate and chocolate packaging industries!
Cocoa bean husks are usually waste products in chocolate production but James Cropper has used them to make paper. The husks also naturally colour the paper avoiding the use of chemicals, dyes, and pigments.
The paper contains 10%
content and is certified for direct food contact, meeting strict regulations. It also contains natural biodegradable components, is fully recyclable, and FSC certified.
"We liked this innovation developed through collaboration between a manufacturer and a customer outside of the industry" said Frederic Lieberman, jury president.
Other nominees included: The bamboo Triangle display by Mingfeng Packaging Manufacturer – a box made of bamboo that can be easily and quickly assembled and disassembled thanks to its magnet system; and The ONE box by ZRP – made without printing or foiling to reduce the resources used, the inside and outside of this box are entirely made out of recycled Kraft paper.
