LED chip, lamp and lighting maker Cree Inc of Durham, NC, USA has introduced WaveMax Technology as a waveguide platform featuring a combination of control, uniformity and efficiency to deliver solid-state lighting in new form factors that are said to be intelligent in both design and function.
Featuring Cree DiamondFacet optical elements to achieve up to 90% optical efficiency and precise optical control, WaveMax Technology is said to deliver unmatched visual comfort, uniform illumination and improved color quality while enabling design capabilities and energy-saving potential for modern LED luminaires. As a result, high-CRI (color rendering index) lighting and warmer color temperatures can be achieved without sacrificing efficacy and enhancing the ability to achieve USGBC LEED certification, says Cree.
As the first interior LED luminaire to feature WaveMax Technology, the Cree LN Series suspended ambient luminaire combines precise indirect/direct optical control and what is claimed to be exceptional efficacy in an architectural suspended luminaire for both new and existing commercial building spaces. Featuring a modular design to simplify installation and improve design freedom with increased spacing between luminaires, the LN Series luminaire enables quiet ceilings for vibrant spaces, at a price aimed to drive adoption. When paired with Cree's SmartCast Technology wireless controls, occupants experience intelligent light at an affordable price, creating a customizable lighting environment that can save more than 70% in energy costs over linear fluorescent lighting, Cree reckons.
Cree has also unveiled the IG Series LED parking garage luminaire (also featuring WaveMax Technology) aiming to obsolete the more than 4 million parking garage luminaires installed in the USA via its low-glare illumination. Compared with metal halide lighting, the luminaires can deliver more than 80% energy savings and payback of less than two years with 24 hour-a-day usage, it is claimed. Programmable motion controls further increase savings and enable a simple way to customize settings for high- or low-occupancy applications.
Cree is debuting the first of its new luminaires to feature WaveMax Technology at LIGHTFAIR International 2015 in New York (5-7 May), along with Cree's full portfolio of LED technology. The LN Series and IG Series luminaires are targeted for availability in the USA and Canada this summer.
