Packaging materials developer Tekni-Plex has started production at its new manufacturing facility in Suzhou, China.
The new advanced facility, which features 140,000ft² of space, has already began producing products for the firm’s Natvar, Colorite and Action Technology business units.
Earlier this year, Tekni-Plex announced $15m investment to develop the facility to provide better services for the customers in the Asia-Pacific pharmaceutical and medical device market.
The new facility includes Class 100K cleanrooms, which will be used to produce medical-grade tubing and components production.
Suzhou facility also includes Class 10K cleanroom, which will manufacture Natvar’s pharma-grade tubing solutions.
Natvar’s silicone extrusion tubing solutions will be used in catheters, feeding tubes, drug delivery and peristaltic pump applications.
Early next year, Tekni-Plex will also start the production of microextrusion tubing solutions to be used in a wide variety of neurovascular interventional therapies and surgical applications.
The facility will also be used to produce Colorite custom compounds for medical device applications, as well as Action Technology’s dip tubes used in a wide variety of food/beverage, pharmaceutical, personal care, industrial and household pump applications.
Earlier this month, Tekni-Plex acquired the self-adhesive tape substrate operations of Alfatherm, as part of its efforts to expand its operations in Italy.
Alfatherm produces rigid, semirigid and plasticised PVC foils. Its plastic foils are used in a wide range of applications including furniture, food packaging, stationery, shrink labels (sleeves), wine cups, adhesive labels, advertising printed foils and adhesive tapes.
Based in Wayne of Pennsylvania, Tekni-Plex develops and produces packaging materials, medical compounds and precision-crafted medical tubing solutions for medical, pharmaceutical, personal care, household and industrial, and food and beverage industries.
