MIPS Technologies and China-based mobile system-on-chip firm Actions Semiconductor have announced a design in for an Android 4.0'Ice Cream Sandwich'tablet.
The miumiu W1 tablet from China-based tablet manufacturer Ramos incorporates the ATM7019 SoC from Actions,which is based on a superscalar MIPS32 74Kf core running at 1GHz.
"The MIPS architecture continues to proliferate into the mobile segment.The 74K core family is already proven in numerous networking and home entertainment products,"said Gideon Intrater,v-p of marketing,MIPS Technologies.
Ramos'miumiu W1 tablet is expected to be available this summer in markets such as India,Latin America and Europe.
"With its expected attractive price/performance point,we anticipate that this tablet will be very appealing to customers especially in emerging markets such as India,Latin America,and some European markets,"said Wence Li,marketing director,Ramos.
The tablet features 512Mbyte DDR3 RAM,support for Wifi 802.11b/g/n,USB 2.0 high-speed 5-pin Micro USB interface,4/8Gbyte storage with support for up to 32Gbyte external storage,microSD slot,support for 1080p HD video and most popular audio/video formats,640x480 front camera and video recording with 640x480 resolution.
In addition to support for Android 4.0,the CPU incorporates an OpenGL ES 2.0 3D graphics processing unit,HDMI 1.3,support for multi-format high-definition 1080p video encoding and decoding,and other advanced functionality.
Ramos'miumiu W1 tablet is expected to be available in Q3 2012.Sales channels and pricing will be announced at a later date.
