Odisha Is Planning to Award a Mega Contract to Rebuild The Power Network

Odisha is planning to award a mega contract to rebuild the power network in the Phailin-affected Ganjam district, by June 2014. State power transmission utility Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Ltd had floated the global tender for the Rs.1,000-crore project in two phases—in February and March this year.

The project includes installation of 33kV and 11kV gas insulated substations with supervising control and data acquisition (SCADA) facility, as well as underground cabling of 132kV power line of 54km along with 300 km worth 11kV and 33kV lines.

Asian Development Bank has agreed to grant a loan of Rs.650 crore while the remaining Rs.350 crore will be shared by the Orissa government. The project is being implemented under the name Odisha Power Sector Emergency Assistance Project.

On October 2013, Cyclone Phailin made landfall near Gopalpur, making Ganjam the most affected district. In all 18 out of Odisha's 30 district were affected by the cyclone, in various degrees.
