The Mexican of Chihuahua Leads in Production of Cotton During Last Year with 652,340 Bales

The Mexican state of Chihuahua leads in production of cotton in the country during last year with 652,340 bales, with an average yield of 7.72 bales per hectare, as per the data released by the Ministry of the Rural Development of the state.

According to the Ministry data, last year, cotton growers in the country cultivated the crop on 120,000 to 130,000 hectares, and harvested 652,340 bales.

The cotton crop accounts for 16.5 percent of the overall agricultural production in the state, making it the most profitable crop in Chihuahua.

As per the Ministry data, cotton was sown in the municipalities of Ascension, Janos, Casas Grandes Buenaventura Villa Ahumada, Valle de Juarez, Ojinaga, Aldama, Manuel Benavides, Coyame, Meoqui, Delicias, Jimenez and Camargo of the state during last year.

Currently, the Mexican state of Chihuahua has around 32 operational cotton ginneries, whereas six more are under construction. Japan and China are the main destination for cotton exports from the state, but majority of the production is utilized in domestic consumption.

The cotton producers in the state utilize the High Volume Instrument (HVI) laboratories’ technology, in order to achieve higher production quality of cotton and better classification of cotton fibre, which gives greater certainty to buyers.
