Mahwah, N.J. - Denon is entering the soundbar market with the launch of the $599-suggested DHT-S514. More are planned for 2014, the company said.

The wall-mountable soundbar connects to TVs via coaxial or optical digital inputs, stereo analog RCA input jacks, or HDMI port with audio return channel. An HDMI cable, optical digital cable and a stereo analog cable are included.

Other key features include Dolby Digital and DTS decoding, Denon Virtual Surround, wireless subwoofer with dual 5.25-inch drivers, Bluetooth, aptX streaming over Bluetooth, and 175-watt total output. The subwoofer can be placed horizontally or vertically.

The DHT-S514 comes with its own remote control, but it learns IR codes so it can be controlled from a user's existing TV remote. The bar also features an IR repeater in back in case the bar blocks the TV's IR eye.

The bar also comes with two sets of removable feet with different heights.

The driver complement consists of two 0.5-inch tweeters and two 2x5-inch hyperbolic high-rigidity transducer (HHRT) drivers that reproduce upper bass and midrange audio.

Other features include five listening modes: dialog, music, music wide, movie, and movie wide to tailor sound to a user's preferences. A night mode delivers full-range tonal balance for late-night listening without wide swings in volume that would disturb sleeping family members, the company said.
