Majority of Leed Projects in Sweden to Achieve The Highest Tiers of Leed Certification

The majority of registered LEED projects in Sweden consistently go on to achieve the highest tiers of LEED certification, with 23 percent of all certified projects earning Platinum certification and 67 percent achieving Gold, according to LEED in Motion: Sweden, a new report from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The report also notes that six projects were certified in the first part of 2014, and if this trend continues, Sweden will see a 33 percent increase over 2013's number of certified projects.

"As we look overseas to foster further momentum in our movement to transform the built environment, Sweden stands as a worthy example of a nation intent on creating high-performance structures that enhance the well-being of their occupants as well as the planet," said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, USGBC. "Sweden is an unequivocal leader that has, time and again, demonstrated its commitment to healthy buildings and healthy people, and we are proud to showcase its strategies and successes in our latest LEED in Motion report."

LEED in Motion: Sweden is a full accounting of all LEED activity in Sweden, which is home to 57 LEED-certified projects totaling 1.1 million gross square meters of space.

The report highlights, specifically, how the global rating system works in Sweden through project profiles and testimonials, as well as how LEED credits and strategies push the limits of convention for maximum outcomes. It also features forewords from the chief executive officers of Skanska Sweden and Vasakronan, two of the biggest companies in Sweden pursuing LEED.

LEED in Motion: Sweden builds on the popular LEED in Motion report series launched in 2013. It is the first in a series of LEED in Motion reports focused on countries and regions. Its purpose is to equip readers with the insight and perspective they need to understand the use of the globally recognized LEED rating system.
