"Many sandwich consumers want to be able to choose what to buy very quickly as an 'on the go' purchase, but also seek reassurance about the quality and freshness of the product they are going to be eating," said Phil Parkinson, design manager at NXL. "The aim was to create packaging that would meet both these consumer requirements, with a highly distinctive theme that would immediately communicate what the product variant and ingredients are."
Another key challenge was ensuring that the designs simultaneously conformed to the complex parameters of the client's lidding film material, automated packing machines, and on-line printing equipment – all of which are used to complete each pack.
The result is packaging range which incorporates the Culinaré brand logo as the prominent feature. The range was broken down into four main categories, which are coded through the packaging with unique colour schemes and background imagery.
