Bottleware was created by the Japanese design studio Nendo in collaboration with Coca-Cola to make a glass tableware collection. The pieces are made from Coca-Cola contour bottles that have been deteriorating over time from extensive recycling and can no longer be used for their original purpose.
The Coca-Cola bottle has been a brand icon since 1916. Nendo was taken by the green color of the glass known as "Georgia Green" as well as the fine air bubbles and distortions that are a mainstay of recycled glass.
Nendo decided to create bowls and dishes that would highlight these imperfections as well as give a nod to the original design of the bottle. To do this they included the dimpling at the bottom of the bottles on their pieces to remind users of the recycled nature of them.
