ARM and Cadence have collaborated on the PANTA's high-resolution display processor and scaling coprocessor IP cores. They are targeted at "advanced" multimedia applications for mobile devices with ultra-low power consumption.
The semiconductor designer will now buy the display technology to improve its mobile processor offerings.
"Display technology is critical to the mobile consumer's user experience," said Pete Hutton, executive vice president and general manager, media processing division at ARM. "The addition of the PANTA family of display cores to the ARM product portfolio will help our ecosystem of partners get to market quickly with high-end displays that are fully integrated with ARM's leading Mali graphics and video solutions and protected with ARM TrustZone security."
Last week, ARM snapped up Finish start-up Sensinode, which specialises in software technology behind the "internet of things".
Both acquisitions suggest ARM believes the semiconductor industry will move towards ever-more pervasive computing where intelligence and networking is built into everyday products and devices.
