Kent County residents may want to pay attention to a particular piece of "junk mail" in the coming weeks as Consumers Energy gears up to begin installing so-called smart meters in homes and small businesses of some 270,500 customers here. The Jackson-based utility plans in November to begin installing the high tech meters in homes and small businesses in Grand Rapids, allowing customers what company officials say are more accurate billings and the ability to track power usage online.
