Japan's Osaka-based Kansai Tetsugen council of ferrous scrap dealers secured a total of 69,351 tonnes of locally available ferrous scrap in November 2012 for arrivals at member companies' captive yards in the Osaka area, down 1% from the same month of a year ago, indicating a year on year decrease for six consecutive months since June 2012.
According to the council, of the total arrivals, heavy scrap accounted for 52,640 tonnes, up 4% from the same month of a year ago Shindachi (high-grade material) 10,668 tonnes, down 17% and turnings 6,043 tons, down 11%.
Kansai Tetsugen's direct shipments of local ferrous scrap to steelmakers totaled 15,572 tonnes in November 2012, down 11% from the same month of a year ago.
As a result, Kansai Tetsugen stocked a total of 7,599 tonnes of local ferrous scrap at the end of November 2012, down 44% from the same month of a year ago, indicating a year on year decrease for nine consecutive months, when the stocked quantity fell short of 10,000 tonnes for eight consecutive months.
Meanwhile, the shiploading volume of ferrous scrap in the Osaka Bay area totaled 39,622 tonnes in November 2012, up 66% from the same month of a year ago, indicates a Kansai Tetsugen survey. Of the total, heavy scrap accounted for 16,609 tonnes, miscellaneous ferrous stuff 20,510 tonnes and others 2,503 tonnes.
