Wichita, Kan.-based Invista recently celebrated the start up of its previously announced additional capacity at its super high-tenacity nylon 6,6 airbag fiber facility in Shanghai (See " Invista To Double Airbag Fiber Capacity In Shanghai," TextileWorld.com, October 26, 2010). The facility opened in 2008, and the capacity increase doubles production to more than 20 kilotons of fiber annually.

To mark the occasion, the company held a ceremony with senior leaders of the Shanghai Qingpu District Government and the Shanghai Qingpu Industrial Zone in attendance along with Invista representatives including Jeff Brown, executive vice president, Invista Performance Surfaces & Materials.

"On the sixth day of the sixth month, we are pleased to celebrate doubling the size of our Anlon nylon 6,6 air bag fiber manufacturing facility," said Brown. "This is now the largest facility of its kind in Asia, and we are pleased to share the celebration with so many distinguished guests."

Invista has other investment commitments including building a nylon 6,6 polymer facility at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park. The company signed a Land Reservation Agreement with the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Development Co. back in May. The land is next to planned Invista hexamethylene diamine and adiponitrile facilities, and the reservation agreement moves the company closer to its goal of establishing an integrated nylon 6,6 polymer facility in China.
