Taipei, Sept. 10, 2012 (CENS)--Leading Notebook (NB) makers in Taiwan, including Quanta Computer Inc., Compal Electronics, Inc., and Inventec Corporation, recently announced compromised combined revenues in August due mainly to the postponed launch of the new Win 8 from Microsoft, whose later launch in the fourth quarter is predicted to enable NB shipments to rebound in September.
Quanta posted combined revenues of NT$ 83.611 billion (US$ 2.787 billion) in August, down 6% from July and down 10.2% year on year (YoY), but still a third monthly high this year. The firma's last fourth-quarterly revenue hit a quarterly high of NT$ 300.4 billion (US$ 10.13 billion), with NT$ 237.5 billion (US$ 7.916 billion) in second-quarterly combined revenues this year.
Quantaa's NB shipments reached about 4.2 million units in August, down 6% from Julya's 4.5 million units. According to foreign investors, Quantaa's third-quarterly revenues will rise 5% to 10%, with cumulative revenues in July and August totaling NT$ 172.6 billion (US$ 5.753 billion).
Compala's combined revenues reached NT$ 51.755 billion (US$ 1.725 billion) in August, down 7.7% month on month (MoM), with NB shipments remaining flat in July with 3 million to 3.1 million units.
R.T. Chen, general manager of Compal, admitted recently that ita's target NB shipments this year have been adjusted to about 40.5 million units, down 13.8% from the original, to be on par to last yeara's goal. Compala's aggregate NB shipments in July and August reached about 6.2 million units.
Inventec posted non-combined revenues in August of NT$ 21.226 billion (US$ 707.53 million), plummeting 13.7% from Julya's NT$ 24.595 billion (US$ 819.83 million), the second-lowest monthly figure this year, with NB shipment in August of 1.2 million units.
