Tassal Operations Has Achieved ASC Certification

Australian salmon producer Tassal Operations has achieved Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) certification.

ASC is an environmental and social sustainability certification status for farmed seafood products.

Tassal Operations salmon farming site, Macquarie Harbour, was certified to the ASC standard by SCS Global Services, a global certification body.

Tassal CEO Mark Ryan said, "With more and more customers demanding sustainable products, it makes sense for the environment and for the bottom line of Australian companies."

SCS executive vice president Robert J Hrubes said, "Tassal's ASC certification will not only provide market benefits for Tassal and its customers, but will also minimize impacts on the Tasmanian marine ecosystem.

"By achieving ASC certification, Tassal is demonstrating leadership in responsible salmon farming."

Tassal is seeking to achieve the ASC standard for all six of its salmon farming sites.

The company, meanwhile, conducted a life cycle assessment (LCA) of its operations to identify its environmental impact profile.
