Foreign media reports said that although WhatsApp, WeChat, Line as well as Skype and Tango have squeezed into the IM and VoIP application market, China Mobile Ltd. (SEHK: 0941 and NYSE: CHL) is still determined in launching independently developed Jego.
Spokesperson of China Mobile confirmed that Jego will be launched next month, targeting international users who need to contact with Chinese friends, family members and related people.
Derick Li, manager of China Mobile in charge of mobile development, pointed out that the company does not aim to compete with WeChat that have nearly 200 million users through the promotion. Instead, Jego will mainly function as a cross-platform video communication service, thus being an archrival of Skype. Of course, certain competition will somewhat exists with WeChat, Tango and Viber that offer service based on video communication.
